Okay so this isn’t really caesar dressing in any way but it is inspired by what seems to be the hottest new brunch item in NYC, spicy kale caesar salad. It was a particularly delicious one my sister and I had at The Butcher’s Daughter in Nolita, that inspired me to make it myself. I wanted to be able to have this tasty item at home any day of the week (perhaps even for dinner!).
As usual i challenged myself to make this dressing super healthy without compromising too much on taste. My toughest critic, president of the peanut gallery, and lovingly honest husband gave this his highest rating…a request to make it again.

I made the harissa (my recipe from a previous post) but there is no shame in buying it. There are plenty of great options out there, some hot, some sweet, so find whichever one suits you!

I love how flavorful and creamy it is – it can make simple lettuce a little more exciting but it also works with so many toppings – some of my favorites being avocado, sweet potato, pickled red onion, toasted walnuts, mushrooms, I could go on all day.

Spicy Caesar Dressing
Yield: about 1 cup of dressing
Ingredients
½ cup plain greek yogurt
⅓ cup harissa*
juice of 1 lemon
salt and pepper
Instructions
Combine yogurt, harissa, and lemon juice in a bowl and whisk until smooth.
Taste and add salt and/or pepper as needed.
Notes
* harissa is a North African chili paste. I used my recipe for harissa but you can now find it in most grocery stores – find the one you like best, some pack quite a bit of heat, others have a touch of sweetness. The harissa you use will change the outcome of your dressing so don’t be afraid to play around with the ingredients and make sure to taste before adding salt and pepper.
